Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, President Taylor and Delegates to the Convention:
In the Precious Name of Jesus!
Greetings to you as you undertake by God’s grace the task of gathering for the triennial convention of the Atlantic District, LCMS on the campus of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Colonie, NY. What a privilege it is to come together for the sake of mutual conversation and consolation in this way!
I am most confident that Bishop Taylor will guide you faithfully and with aplomb through the rigors of the day as he receives the gavel to serve as Convention Chair. Having held that gavel many times, it’s most certain that two things will take place – someone will call for a “point of order” and someone will “call the question.” It is equally certain that God is in charge of His Church, and Christ is the Head of the assembly most aptly called The Body of Christ. So – what could go wrong? It will be a marvelous blessing, which prayerfully will redound first of all to the glory of God, then back to the sanctuaries of district congregations, and finally echo next year at the level of the LCMS National Convention.
May you all be held in the arms of a gracious God every step to and from the Convention, and may we rejoice together in mercies received throughout!
